ONE + HYPER 62: the ultimate alliance

The Factor ONE first appeared in prototype form at the 2025 Dauphiné, where it powered Jake Stewart to an unexpected but dominant stage sprint victory. More recently, it has been the bike of choice for Ben Oliver of Modern Adventure Pro Cycling for much of the 2026 season. In the first part of the year, Oliver had accumulated an impressive collection of podiums, until he and the ONE achieved their first professional victory at the Tour de Wallonie in early June.

From the moment the ONE burst onto the WorldTour scene, it redefined what could be expected from an aerodynamic racing bike. It doesn't just focus on being aero, which it is, but rethinks how a bike's geometry can work with the riding style of modern elite riders.

The ONE's geometry was designed to accommodate these WorldTour positions without compromise. By decoupling the handlebar attachment from the steerer tube, Factor can offer riders the extreme reach they seek without resorting to overly long and unstable stems. The bottom bracket drop was also adjusted to compensate for the higher center of gravity caused by shorter cranks and larger tires, preserving stability and maintaining a balanced front-to-rear weight distribution.

The result is that the ONE is not only the fastest road frame in wind tunnel testing, as independent tests have shown, but also a fast and stable bike on the road. This allows the rider to reach speed quickly and maintain it with less power demand. As Stewart said after securing the biggest victory of his career: "When it hits 50 km/h, it really starts to fly."

That feeling is a direct consequence of the frame's design, where the aerodynamic shape of the tubes generates a verified drag reduction in the wind tunnel at higher yaw angles, offering a distinct "lift" sensation when the rider reaches speeds of 50 km/h or more.

Stewart also highlighted that the bike seemed to help him maintain top speed, especially in exposed sections with crosswinds. The aggressive forward position, combined with the stiffness of the front end and a balanced weight distribution, allowed him to apply full sprint power without steering deviations.

A HYPER wheel to match

Now, with the recent launch of the Black Inc HYPER 62, the ONE has the ideal aero wheel to reach its maximum speed. After many months in the design phase, the development of the HYPER 62 accelerated when Factor and Black Inc engineers and designers began working on the Bugatti ONE. That project gave the team a reason to accelerate development and turn the concept into a full production program.

The first prototypes were built around 48mm wheels before the project evolved into the deeper HYPER 62 platform. Those early test wheels were extremely light and very stiff, confirming that the concept had potential.

From there, the team focused on developing its innovative proprietary carbon spoke construction, bonded hub architecture, integrated hidden threaded nipples, and a more complete understanding of how a high-performance wheel behaves under load.

The goal was clear: to build a fast wheel that remained useful in the real world of racing: lightweight, laterally responsive, aerodynamically refined, and structurally controlled.

Aerodynamic performance does not come solely from the rim profile. The proprietary carbon spoke technology, combined with integrated hidden nipples, proves to be one of the most effective design elements for improving the overall aerodynamic efficiency.

The 62mm depth also required special attention to maintain stiffness without adding weight. The sidewalls of a deep carbon rim can be extremely thin. If these walls are not properly controlled, they can deform inward and outward under load, during tire installation, or against impacts.

To avoid the dreaded "oil-canning" effect, Black Inc engineers employed an advanced carbon layup and a TexTreme outer layer. This offers a dual advantage: it produces an extremely stiff and responsive wheel, but also surprisingly light, at just 1298 grams per wheelset.

While these wheels may not be as light as specific 20mm climbing wheels, they offer an equally fast response and add the benefit of increased speed thanks to their aerodynamic profile and depth.
